TenkaIppin
The new shop in Hawaii was built on Kapahulu not long ago. Located about 10 minutes away from Waikiki, TenkaIppin has become a local favorite and is known for its gourmet style. The owner of this Ten-ichi, Scott Suzui, was born and raised in Hawaii and his down-home Aloha spirit makes everyone feel welcome.
The interior of the restaurant is decorated with photos thats taken with friends and famous sumo-wrestlers Konishiki, former Yokuzuna Musashimaru. Scott is such good friends wth the wrestlers that you can even catch them doing a commercial for TenkaIppin on local TV!
It's very hard to describe the thick, rich soup made from chicken and vegetables. The soup is slow boiled for over ten hours, essential for good ramen. The ramen at TenkaIppin manages to find a delightful harmony between the soup and ingredients which come directly from Japan. For extra flavor, they can also serve you with red peppered minced garlic or red peppered miso paste.
Scott recommends the combo of Kotteri Ramen and Fried Rice ($11.22). We agree. The balance of flavor between the thick soup ramen and the fried rice is absolutely delicious.
