Hawaii Welcomes Target!
Ever popular on the mainland but still somewhat an unknown here in the islands, Target stores will be debuting at two locations on Oahu in early 2009. One will be in the Kapolei area and the other will be located in Salt Lake. Target is one of the big-box retailers along the lines of Walmart and K-Mart, selling everything from clothes to household items, office supplies, etc. all at discount prices. Target stores are so widespread on the mainland and so common place in most metropolitan areas in fact, that it has left many people here on the islands wondering why Hawaii has been left out of the mix for so long. Most people here have either shopped at one on the mainland or have at least heard of the name. Known for carrying items that are cheaply priced but yet fashionable and trendy, only the really high-end items might be a tad expensive. Not only do they carry things such as kitchen items, furniture and the like, but they also carry famous designer brands and special collaborative items with top-name designers. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that Target supports many a households on the mainland. Target expects to employ about 600 people, meaning more jobs for the island and a boost to the local economy. While we'll also be looking forward to the opening of the new Nordstrom's at Ala Moana Center, Target is definitely the one to watch.
