Holiday Driving
December 20, 2007
Drunk driving arrests are up in Hawaii, thanks to a new law that went into effect this year. The law, passed back in July, differentiates between legally drunk (.08%) from the highly intoxicated (.15%) when it comes to sentencing. The new designation comes with stiffer penalties. Those drivers found with a blood alcohol content of 0.15% or more will face 14 hours at a substance abuse program and a minimum 6 month driving suspension. Other punishments can include community service, jail times and fines.
