Shipping Prices Increase
January 4, 2008
Matson shipping is increasing its fuel surcharge 2.5 percent. The increase will raise the overall rate to 31.5 percent. The rate applies to Matson's Hawaii, Guam/CNMI and Micronesia services. The company cites high fuel costs for the change.
Horizon, the other main shipping company in Hawaii, also raised rates recently to around 32 percent. The costs will amount to 75$ per container for westbound shipping and 40$ per container for eastbound shipping. There are also plans to increase the terminal handling charges.
