Castro Resigns

Fidel Castro, the aging communist president of Cuba, has announced that he will be stepping down as the supreme leader of the island nation today. In a letter printed in Cuba's state-owned newspaper, Castro cited failing health and the need for smooth transition of power as reasons for his sudden decision. While hospitalized with colon cancer last year, Castro remained in power but ran the country from behind the scenes.
