School Meat Thrown Out
February 27, 2008
The Hawaii State Department of Education has ordered over 250,000 pounds of beef to be removed from Hawaii public schools and destroyed. The move came after an investigation on the mainland in which workers at the Westland/Hallmark company where found to have slaughtered diseased animals. The company, based in California, supplies meat to island schools for the National School Lunch program. Since none of the meat entered the food supply, Hawaii officials have reported that no illnesses have resulted from the food scare.
