Molokai Job Loss
March 25, 2008
Molokai Properties Ltd. said Monday it will shut down Molokai Ranch by the end of March. The closure will result in the loss of 120 jobs on the island a big hit for an island with only 7,500 residents. The company announced that the lay offs were made after financial losses due to lengthy court cases dealing with the luxury development plan at Laau point. Molokai Ranch had wanted to build 200 luxury units and develop 500 acres of land on the island and then use that revenue to revitalize Kaluakoi Resort. Many on Molokai rejected the plan.
