Petraeus Testifies On Iraq
April 8, 2008
The top US general in Iraq, General David Petraeus, has stated that Iraq is making "fragile" progress in terms of security and that gains made in the last few months could collapse at any time. Testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee, General Petraeus recommended that US troop levels remain at pre-surge levels during the summer. The US military has plans to reduce the number of troops stationed in Iraq by 20,000 in July. The plan calls for a 45 day assessment period after the reduction to determine if more troops are still needed.
