JAPunahou Sports Recognized
Sports Illustrated will recognize Punhou as the best High School in the nation for sports in its latest issue. The program was picked as the best out of more than 38,000 high schools across the nation. Officials at Punahou have declined to make an official comment yet but did acknowledge that the magazine sent a reporter and photographer to spend several days on campus three weeks ago for the upcoming issue.
Sports Illustrated stated that its criteria in choosing a school emphasized all-around excellence, including state titles won and the number of college athletes produced by the program. Punahou has won 16 team state championships in this school year alone, including eight in the past two weeks. Twelve of this year's seniors signed national letters of intent to play for NCAA Division I programs as well.
