Court Rules Against Children Seizure
May 22, 2008
A Texas appeals court ruled that children seized from a ranch in the western part of the state were taken illegally. The children were part of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Mormon offshoot that practices polygamy. Lawyers for the group argued against the seizures because the state of Texas considered all of the families living on the ranch as one household. Proving abuse by one family did not mean that the other children were in any danger and needed to be taken into custody.
