City Looks At Taxi Rate Hike
June 2, 2008
The city of Honolulu is looking at increasing rates for taxi drivers on the island. The city is responsible for setting the maximum fare limits that drivers can charge. Taxi companies are then free to set their rates under the government limit. The last time a rate increase was approved was in November 2005. City Council members will also look at approving a fuel surcharge for drivers. The proposed changes will affect more than 1,400 licensed taxi drivers in the city.
