JACouncilman Apologizes For Slur

City Councilman Rod Tam apologized yesterday for comments he made during a committee meeting. During the meeting last month, Councilman Tam made reference to undocumented "wetback" workers. The meeting was to discuss rezoning land for the additions to the UH west-Oahu campus. Tam stated at the meeting that he had received complaints about the use of illegal workers at the nearby construction sites and expressed his opinion that the city needed to hire skilled workers and not unskilled "wetbacks" from Mexico.
