Barack Obama Becomes Nominee
June 4, 2008
Senator Barack Obama became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee last night and the first African-American to lead a major party's ticket. Obama secured his lead in the delegate count after winning delegates in the South Dakota and Montana primaries, which were held yesterday. Obama needed 2,118 delegates needed to capture the nomination and scored 2,156 to Senator Clinton's 1,923. Despite the victory for Obama and the congratulations by senior members of the Democratic party, Senator Hillary Clinton has still not conceded the race.
