Big Island To Get Security Cameras
June 4, 2008
The state is making a push to install surveillance cameras throughout the state to deter crime in busy locations. The decision comes after a pilot program sponsored by the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) found that the presence of the cameras led to a large reduction in the number of vehicle break-ins some popular tourist locations. The cameras were tested on Oahu back in 2005 and 2006 at 'Ehukai Beach Park and the Pali Lookout.
