The Pearl Harbor based cruiser USS Lake Erie will conduct tests to intercept a drone launched from a decommissioned helicopter carrier 250 miles northwest of Kauai today. The tests are an ongoing part of the development of a missile defense system for the US. Since the testing began in 2002, the Navy and the Missile Defense Agency have had 12 missile intercepts in 14 attempts.
