Storms Ravage Iowa, Midwest
June 13, 2008
Iowa state officials are asking people to voluntarily evacuate businesses and homes in Des Moines because of rising flood waters. The Des Moines River was expected to peak around 8pm Friday night. Officials are hoping that the evacuation of the city will be completed later in the day. Other towns in the area have also been evacuated. In Cedar Rapids, a downtown hospital was evacuated as the Cedar River flooded 400 city blocks. Residents of more than 3,000 homes had to flee to higher ground.
