Na Hoku Hanohano Award Winners
June 18, 2008
The 31st Annual Na Hoku Hanohano awards show was held at the Hawaii Convention Center last night. Awards in more than twenty categories were handed out to performers and groups who showed distinction in the Hawaii music industry last year. The awards were started back in 1978 to recognize and celebrate Hawaiian music. While voting in most Hoku categories is restricted to Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts members, the categories of Hawaiian-language performance and haku mele (for song or chant in Hawaiian) are judged by a panel of Hawaiian-language specialists.
