American Hostage Freed In Colombia
July 3, 2008
Fifteen hostages, including Ingrid Bentancourt a former Colombian presidential candidate and three Americans, were freed from their captors yesterday by the Colombian military in a daring daytime rescue. The group was freed after Colombian commandos disguised themselves as rebels and tricked the guerrillas into turning over the captives. While the Colombians planned and executed the operation, the United States provided important intelligence, planning and technical assistance.
