Hawaii Home Prices Fall
Hawaii home prices for a single family home fell by more than 8% last month. The median price for a home on Oahu was $625,000, off from a high of $685,000 in June 2007, as soft demand forced sellers to lower prices. The drop represents the largest loss so far this year.
In the Honolulu Board of Realtors report released yesterday, the number of home sales was down drastically from last years highs. Last month there were only 232 home sales, down 30 percent from 338 sales in June 2007. Year-to-date sales are down around 25 percent. Many predict, however, that prices will soon stabilize. For the first half of this year, median home resale price was $629,000, down 2.5 percent from $645,000. Those numbers are in line with study completed back in March by the University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization that predicted a 2 percent drop this year.
Prices for condos also fell in June. The number of condo sales was down 35.1 percent to 355 from 547 and the price dropped 1.9 percent to $327,500 from $334,000 a year earlier.
