Whale Carcass Blocks Road
July 18, 2008
Pieces of a sperm whale carcass being transported for burial fell off a truck at a busy Kaneohe intersection yesterday, delaying traffic for more than two hours. Starting at dawn, government workers and volunteers tied nets and ropes around the whale and pulled it from a Kahuku beach. An excavator then put the carcass into a trash bin and the pieces were later buried in Kaneohe. Operators said it was like trying to lift a huge piece of smelly jell-o.
