School Board To Cut $50 Million

Facing budget shortfalls, the state Board of Education has agreed to $50 million in cuts for the 2009 schoolyear. In a meeting held last night, the board voted 11-1 to eliminate about 240 state and district positions, including physical therapists, resource teachers and speech pathologists. Included in the cuts was money for athletic supplies and equipment, alternative learning centers and science textbooks.
