Roadside Memorial
The roadside memorial for little Cyrus Belt, the two year old thrown onto the H-1 freeway last week has grown, prompting safety concern from transportation officials. Banners, leis, balloon and stuffed animals have been placed across the Miller street overpass, brought by neighbors and people from all over the island wishing to express their support for the family over this horrific tragedy.
Over the last few days, parts of the memorial have drifted across the road and onto the highway below, creating road hazards. In an effort to forestall accidents, road crews last weekend moved much of the debris away from the bridge. Officials hope that this will also limit the number of drivers slowing to catch a glimpse of the memorial.
Cyrus Belt was thrown onto the H-1 freeway last Thursday, by his deranged neighbor, Matthew M. Higa. No reason for the murder was given, but neighbors reported that Higa was mentally unstable and had a violent temper.
A candlelight vigil is scheduled for 5.00pm tonight at the state capitol.
