Clinton Wants Michigan Re-vote
Democratic Presidential contender Hillary Clinton pushed for another vote in the Michigan primary. The primaries in Michigan, along with Florida, were not counted by the Democratic party after the dates of the votes were moved forward, a violation of the party rules. Clinton was the victor in both of the contests and needs the delegates from the states if she is to edge out her rival, Barack Obama. The two states account for 336 delegates.
In a speech today, Clinton pressed her rival to allow the state to conduct another primary. Michigan Democratic Party leaders said on Tuesday a proposal to hold additional primary voting in June was stalled and unlikely to be approved before a deadline this week. The Obama campaign responded by stating that a re-vote would be costly and could raise numerous legal issues. Obama was not on the ballot in the state primary.
The issue is could become a divisive one if one candidate does not reach the 2,024 delegates needed at the convention to become the Democratic primary candidate. While a re-vote in Florida has been rejected by the state party, it remains uncertain when a decision about Michigan will be made.
