Iolani Palace Adds Hawaiian language
April 12, 2008
The only palace in the United States, Iolani Palace introduced the first-ever audio tour in the Hawaiian native language.
Iolani Palace introduced the English audio tour in 2006, and last year the Japanese audio tour. Yesterday, the palace introduced Hawaiian in order to honor the spirit of Queen Kapiolani, who spoke the Hawaiian language as a native language.
Students from Kamakau School participated in the inaugural tour yesterday (April 11th). All the audio tours are featured with sound effects, and music written by Queen Liliuokalani including the famous "Aloha 'Oe".
The audio tours are available from Tuesday-Saturday 11:45-15:30, $12 for adults and $5 for children from 5-12 years old.
