Gas Hits $4 In Hawaii

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in Hawaii has passed $4 a gallon for the first time today, just in time for the Memorial Day weekend. The figure represents a 3 cent jump from yesterday.
Gas prices have surged a record 60 cents since last year and roughly 30 cents from a month ago. Prices in cities around the state varied somewhat, with Honolulu seeing averages around $3.90, Wailuku, Maui at around $4.30 and Hilo, Hawaii near $4.00.
The $4.00 average in Hawaii is the sixth highest in the nation. Alaska is number one at $4.18, followed by Connecticut ($4.12), Illinois ($4.06), New York ($4.05) and California ($4.04).
The nationwide average also set a record of $3.87.
