Tennessee Man Fires On Church
A Tennessee man, disgruntled with not finding a job and the "liberal" movement, opened fire on a church on Sunday, killing two and wounding seven others. The shooter has been identified as Jim Adkisson, 58, of Powell, Tennessee an unemployed mechanical engineer who blames "liberals and gays" for his job trouble and for working "against" him.
Adkisson targeted the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church, a church that had been in the news for its "liberal stance" and where some 200 people were watching a children's play at the time. Adkisson had purchased a 12-gauge shotgun from a pawn shop about a month ago and brought it into the church inside a guitar case, police said. Once inside, he fired three times before being subdued by other churchgoers.
One of the men being hailed as a hero was Greg McKendry, 60, a church member who apparently stood in front of the gunman and shielded others from the shotgun blast. He died at the scene, along with 61 year-old Linda Kraeger. Five others were hospitalized after the attack in either critical or serious condition, police said.
Adkisson is currently charged with one count of first-degree murder and is being held on $1 million bond.
