Salmonella Outbreak Linked To Mexico
July 30, 2008
The US Food and Drug Administration has linked last months salmonella outbreak to a farm in Mexico. Health officials initially linked the poisoning with tomatoes, but later changed their focus after outbreaks continued after the tomatoes were recalled.
The investigation shifted to peppers after health officials in Colorado found salmonella in peppers at the home of a victim and also found tainted jalapeno peppers in a shipment from Mexico last week.
The Mexico authorities have repeatedly denied that the tainted food came from Mexico, but the FDA announced today that inspectors have found samples of Salmonella bacteria at a Mexican farm that produced the serrano peppers.
