State Money For Waikiki Beach
July 31, 2008
The state has announced plans to release funds for planning and design work to restore and improve sections of Waikiki Beach. The improvements will look at ways the beach ecosystem can better manage storm swells and high tides.
In a press conference, Governor Linda Lingle stated it was a priority to "restore the beach so that it lives up to the high expectations of residents and visitors" because it is one of the key attractions in the state.
The project to improve sections of Waikiki Beach will be coordinated with improvement efforts by the hotel industry. State money for the project will be provided by the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
The planning and design work is scheduled to begin this fall and be completed in spring 2010.
