Tropical Storm Fay Hits Florida, Again
Tropical storm Fay has made landfall in Florida for the third time in a week, bringing heavy rains and flooding. The storm had gained strength as it moved through the Caribbean and hit the southwest coast of the state on Tuesday. Today, the storm was moving along the northwest coast and heading toward Georgia and Alabama, inching along at only two miles per hour.
The storm is still relatively strong, with sustained winds of over 60 miles per hour and has brought up to 21 inches of rain to parts of central Florida. Hundreds of homes were effected in the flooding and emergency crews had to rescue some people from flooded neighborhoods.
Heavy rains were expected to continue. The weather service is predicting 10 to 15 more inches of rain over the next several hours. Forecasters are preparing for the worst. There is the possibility that the storm could veer west and head out into the the warmer waters, strengthening before slamming into coastal areas of other Gulf states.
