Warning About Roadside Food Vendors

The Hawaii State Department of Health is warning customers to avoid roadside vendors that operates without proper licensing. The department says that there are safety concerns with many unlicensed or mobile food vendors. Concerns range from the proper handling of food items to sources of meat and other products used in cooking.
The Health Department said that there has been an increase in the number of complaints about unlicensed vendors in recent months. Legal vendors, who are able to show their permits upon request or have them posted in their vehicle, are required to comply with safe food handling and preparation rules.
Those that do fall ill from unlicensed vendors are urged to contact the Health Department and file a complaint.
