North Shore's Killer Waves
North Shore’s killer waves are said to challenge the best of the best to see if they have the stuff. These waves are said to be taller than three-story buildings at times and can pound the shore with a thunderous sound which is what attracts surfers from all around the world.
However, surfers are the only ones who risk their lives to get close to these waves. Cameramen are also in danger because they are sometimes in the water right next to the surfer while they are surfing the wave to get the best shots. Also some photographers stand in very dangerous places to catch a glimpse of a pro surfer riding a great wave.
North Shore lifeguards have reportedly saved up to 700 people from North Shore waters. Lifeguards have said that some of these saves could have been prevented before hand if these swimmers know their limits and stick to them. When surfing, beginners should never try to even attempt to ride big waves and should stay out of North Short waters completely when big waves are present. Experienced surfers should only enter the water with extreme caution and should always enter the water with a buddy.
One surfer from Peru was rescued by helicopter and was very grateful for the lifeguards who saved his life and now understands the dangers of big wave riding.
Surfers, enjoy the waves but make sure that you can handle what the ocean dishes out before you go in. Happy riding!
