PADI Scuba Diving Instructor
There are many different types of PADI scuba diver licenses, like Open Water (OW), Advanced Open Water (AOW), Rescue Diver (RES), and Dive Master (DM). The top license you can get is the PADI Open Water Instructor (OWIS).
As an instructor, on top of being able to be a tour guide for dives you are familiar with, you will be able to certify people taking courses from the OW to DM levels.
So, how in the world do I become a diving instructor?
First, you need to get certified as an instructor, by taking the Instructor Exam (IE). This exam is held many times a year around the world – 6 times a year in Hawaii. There are so many people from Japan who come all the way to Hawaii to take the exam because “the ocean here is so beautiful and clean”, that nearly 1 out of every 7 Japanese diving instructors got certified in Hawaii.
However, it's not like just anybody can take the IE. You need to have your DM license, and have over 100 dives experience. On top of that, you need to take an Instructor Development Course (IDC) before you're eligible for the IE.
Well, a diving instructor is the most prominent authority in scuba diving. So it's not like becoming one is supposed to be easy.
