Interviewer: Aloha Mr. Garibaldi and congradulations on the success of Hawaii's first Superferry. When did you begin the planning phase for the Supper Ferry?

John: We began the process in 2001 right after Sept. 11. We noticed at this time that Hawaii was limited to only one type of transportation in Hawaii. This is when the concept of a ferry came up and it really started rolling from there. We brought out the “Spirit of Ontaria” to the islands in 2004 and we received great support and we began building the Superferry in 2004 and for the last 5 to 6 months we have been adding all of our employees. We are really very excited to bring the Superferry to Hawaii.

Interviewer: What is the name of the 2nd “Sister Ship” that will be coming in 2009?

John: We are not giving the name out right now.

Interviewer: What was the biggest obstacle you faced in trying to get the Superferry service to Hawaii?

John: Change. Anything that is different, people are very apprehensive about. It really took a trememdous effort to communicate to people the benefits and now we have about a 80% support ration within the state and a 95% awareness level. The visitor industry as well as people throughout the state are welcoming the Superferry. This is more than just transportation. 34 flat screen tv's, kid's rooms, 4 large flat screens. The worst thing is that it's a 3 hour voyage. (haha).

Interviewer: The Superferry will be servicing which islands?

John: We will be servicing Maui/Kauai. In 2009 our “Sister Ship” will be servicing Big Island.

Interviewer: Do you see any “pop-up” ferry services showing up in the near future?

John: We are a regulated company and I don't see that any companies will “pop-up” in the near future. With any success, we plan to bring out more ships to Hawaii.
