Billions of brilliant stars adorn the night sky of Mauna Kea. You can’t help but feel under the illusion of being thrown into the space. Mr. Sunny quietly explained the constellations and mythology of the Hawaiian universe. The view was unbelievably gorgeous and beautiful. The only way to adequately express this dynamic view is that say that at that moment, we all “felt the earth.”
Before we miss the sunrise, we head to the top of the mountain. Once again we ride in the van for about 10 minutes. Mr. Sunny tells us that we are here. He looks somehow happier than before; probably because the sun is coming up very soon.
It is hard to express the scenery from the top of mountain. It was marvelous. The sun gradually dyes the blue sky orange, and then into this rich crimson color. Even though we were out of breath, the frozen earth at 4000m and the strong light of the rising sun let the time glide on. The gentle breeze felt like it purified our souls, making us feel sincerely thankful.
On the way back at Onizuka Center, Mr. Sunny pointed out something. It was a Silver Sword, the plant on verge of extinction and one that is rarely found in Hawaii. The silver swords bloom several colors of flowers such as purple and yellow. They are very fragile and susceptible to heat. Even the touch from a human hand could kill them. The earth of Poliahu, the Big Island, was definitely a magnificent place to feel the Hawaiian spirit.
