Women Injures Ankle on Diamond

One of the most popular sightseeing spots on Oahu is definitely Diamond Head. With tourists swarming to Diamond Head everyday, they make the 45 minute climb to the top to get a glimpse at the wonderful bird-eye view of Oahu. With the fabulous ocean and mountain views, the top of Diamond Head lets you forget your worries and gives you chance to focus on the beauty of Hawaii.

However, Diamond Head was not always a tourist attraction and place of fun and excitement. During World War II, the U.S. Army once used Diamond Head as a military base and is still in use today as a National Guard Base. In addition, there are also some cases where elderly people have fallen while climbing the mountain due to its steep terrain. On Tuesday, January 30, a 70-year-old woman injured her ankle while climbing Diamond Head. After climbing the mountain almost a third of the way up, there was a call for assistance and the city paramedics then took the woman to the hospital. The woman complained the she hurt her ankle and the pain continued to the point where she could not continue.
Although, this woman did not suffer serious injuries, we can all learn a lesson from this. When hiking Diamond Head we should all wear proper hiking shoes and be very careful when hiking the steep and twisted trails of the mountain. Let’s enjoy Diamond Head as one of the wonders of Hawaii and see you at the top!
