The Sheraton Moana Surfrider Hotel, known by many as the “First Lady of Waikiki” or “The White Lady”, will be reborn in June as the Moana Surfrider Westin Resort.

Built in 1901 as Waikiki's first premier hotel, the iconic white and gray colored Moana Surfrider Hotel features a distinct Victorian design. This historical building is regarded as the “face of Waikiki”, and is currently undergoing major remodeling procedures.

With the Moana Surfrider taking on the Westin name, the island of Oahu finally gets its first Westin Resort. There are now two Westin Resorts in the islands – the other being the Westin Maui Resort & Spa in Lahaina, Maui.

“The Banyan Veranda”, a restaurant inside the hotel that is famous for its Sunday brunch and afternoon tea, closed for remodeling on April 9, and will remain closed until July. When the restaurant reopens, patrons will find that the interior wasn't the only thing renewed – the menu will also be completely revamped, and that is already causing quite a stir.

In January 2008, a new spa is scheduled to open where the Ships Tavern used to be located. Waikiki's first ocean resort spa will feature two rooms for couples, and fourteen rooms for treatment.
