Super Ferry Reservations Begin
When traveling between the Hawaiian Islands, almost all of us go by plane. Also, it is possible for us to go to other islands by riding cruise ships. Of course, traveling by plane is much more convenient, since it is faster and cheaper. However, now we can leisurely go to other islands in our own cars using a ferry.
When you are traveling to Maui by ferry, it will truly be a memorable experience. It may take less than an hour when going by plane, but when you are sailing on a ferry you may be able to see whales and dolphins swim nearby. Through this trip on the sea, you will see the rich beauty of the Hawaiian waters and even the beauty of the green Hawaiian Islands from sea.
You will be provided with this great opportunity via the Super Ferry named "Alakai," which recently arrived at Honolulu Harbor.
Although regular inter-island service will begin sometime in August, reservations are only being taken from September 5th to January 15 of next year. Reservations are being taken until early January because it is testing whether profits can be made from this regular service.
The one-way passenger fare for adults range from $52 to $62, the fare for children ages 2 to 12 ranges from $41 to $51, while infants (under 2 years) are $17. Tickets purchased online in advance range from $44 to $54 for adults and $33 to $43 for children, seniors and retired military. When you compare the prices to airplane ticket charges, the price of the ferry is quite high, however, planes cannot carry vehicles in the luggage bay. One-way vehicle fares for motorcycles, cars and large vans range from $34 to $104, depending on the day of travel and the size of the vehicle.
Reservations can be made online at the homepage, www.HawaiiSuperferry.com, or by calling (877)443-3779 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday. For commercial and group or tour group reservations, call (808)853-4115 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Currently the ferry is located at Honolulu Harbor and the crew and staff is presently undergoing training, and final Coast Guard certification.
Hawaii Super ferry officials will publicize the August start date once the preparation and certification from the United States Coast Guard are complete. Services will be offered daily between Maui and Oahu, and six days a week between Kauai and Oahu. These voyages will take approximately three hours each way. It is said that a second ferry, scheduled to arrive in 2009, will begin service between Oahu and the Big Island, and a second daily Oahu to Maui round trip will be offered.
