Winter is your chance to see whales!
February 19, 2008
Winter is the season you’re most likely to see whales around the island.
Humpback whales are a common type of whale in Hawaii. They measure from 15 to 20 meters and weigh 30 to 60 tons, making them the fifth largest animals in the world.
The humpback has a distinctive body shape, with unusually long pectoral fins and a knobbly head.
Since Hawaii is famous for its humpback whales in the winter season, many tourists come to visit the islands this time of year. All you need to do is look out at the ocean to see their spectacular jumps. Diamond Head or Makapu’u are considered especially good points to look for whales.
