Hawaii’s Grand Canyon
March 6, 2008
WAIMEA CANYON on Kauai is often referred to as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific! The face is 16 kilometers high, and the width is 1.1 kilometers deep, making for a very large canyon indeed!
The Waimea Canyon was formed by the erosion of a lava plateau for several million years due falling rain in the rain forest of Waialeale Mountain in the center of Kauai island.
The view from the 1115-meter high observation deck is breathtaking!
