Visiting the Shingon Mission of Hawaii
April 18, 2008
The Shingon Mission of Hawaii is a temple located just a few blocks away from Ala Moana Shopping Center.
A long time ago, the temple was built by priests who were sent from Japan to help foster prosperity the island of Hawaii. It was a watershed moment for the Hawaii-Japan relationship.
In the summer, many local Japanese people gather at the temple for the Bon Dance Festival. It's also popular at new years, when people visit to pray for a safe and prosperous up coming year.
The temple is open to the public and we can all use a little good fortune.
