Kaka’ako park: in memory of Ehime Maru
Are you familiar with the incident referred to as Ehime Maru, which occurred on the island of Oahu, in Hawaii, on February 9, 2001? Kaka’ako Park is home to the Ehime Maru Memorial dedicated to those who perished when the Japanese ship collided with the USS Greeneville.
Kaka’ako is located near downtown Honolulu along the coastline between Ala Moana Beach and Honolulu Harbor. The view from this park is spectacular with Waikiki and Diamond Head on the left, the downtown skyline and entrance to Honolulu Harbor on the right, and the ocean at the front, of course.
This beach park is an especial favorite among local families on the weekends as a great spot for BBQs, etc. There is no sandy beach but there are stairs leading into the ocean just a quick paddle away from some great surf spots.
