On February 9 (US time), 2001, the USS Greenville (SSN-772) ship struck the Ehime Maru, a training vessel from Uwajima Perfecture, Japan, just south of Diamond Head, Oahu. Nine people aboard the vessel were killed, including students, teachers, and crew.
