Hanauma Bay
One of Hawaii's most popular tourist destinations, Hanauma Bay! Hanauma means “curve” in Hawaii, and just as its name suggests, this beautiful beach is famous for its unique crescent shape.
This beach is so alluring, there are people that have been there countless times. As you'd expect from a beach this famous, the state of Hawaii goes to great lengths to keep it clean. And it shows - the water there is so unbelievably clear, you can see all sorts of colorful tropical fishes and turtles swimming around at any given moment.
However, because Hanauma Bay is designated as a environmental reserve, visitors without a military ID must pay a $5 entry fee to gain access to the beach. Furthermore, upon entry, everyone must watch a 5 minute video that explains the history and environment of Hanauma Bay. After watching the video, you then sign in at the information desk. Once you've done this, you won't have to watch the video again for a year if you happen to return to the beach later.

The coral reefs at Hanauma Bay spreads wide and far, and is a regular hangout for fishes to relax, making it the best spot to go snorkeling. You can rent some snorkeling equipment at the beach for only $6, so don't worry if you didn't bring any with you.
If you're wondering what the names of the fishes you see in the water are, you can always head on over to the information desk at the center of the beach for more information. They have the names of all the fishes you can see at Hanauma Bay listed next to their pictures, so you can easily identify the different types. Japanese volunteers are also on hand, which is great for the beach's many Japanese visitors.
The reason Hanauma Bay has stayed so beautiful all these years, are the tireless efforts of the beach's many volunteers and staff. Let's help them keep Hanauma Bay this way, and show the due respect for the beach, so that the fishes and sea turtles will continue to flourish for years to come.
