Waikiki Beach
The clear, emerald ocean, a white, sandy beach, and leaves swaying in the wind. Diamond Head looming majestically in the distance. This scene is iconic of Hawaii, and appears on countless postcards of the islands. If this proves one thing, it would be that Waikiki Beach is really the face of paradise - the first image that pops to mind when anyone thinks of Hawaii.
This is all the more reason that it's hard to believe that the area where Waikiki Beach is today, was once a rural district popular for cultivating taro, sweet potatoes, and bananas. It was also a place where the Hawaiian Royal Family used to go to relax.
We may say "Waikiki Beach" as if it was only a single beach, but in actuality, the beaches spreading 3 kilometers from west of the Royal Hawaiian Village to just east of Diamond Head are all connected, and are called Waikiki Beach as well.
At the beach, you'll see many tourists, doing things like surfing, body boarding, and snorkeling. There are places you can rent boards and fins right on the beach, so if your a fan of maritime sports, this is the place for you.
If you're going to visit Hawaii, there's no way you can pass up going to Waikiki Beach at least once. Like the postcards suggest, Waikiki Beach is an extremely beautiful place. You won't be disappointed!
