Duke's Ocean Fest
August 22, 2007
Standing big and tall at the Waikiki Beach, statue of Duke Kahanamoku has been photographed like Barry Bonds has in his recent history-in-the-making. Locals sure know who he is but not all travelers know the legendary surfer that stand tall in the heart of Waikiki. To celebrate his birthday (August 24th), Waikiki beach is hosting a Duke’s Ocean Festival from August 18th to 26th, a nine-day festival.
To celebrate Duke’s 100th birthday, leis are covering Duke’s neck with honor. He is a legendary surfer, the first Hawaiian Olympic winner.
Join the fun and check out the surfing and canoeing event, and on the 24th and the 25th, Sunset on the Beach is showing Duke’s documentary on the big screen. Come and honor Hawaii’s great.
