Celebrate Mother's Day at Kahi Gallery
The Kahi Gallery in Waikiki is having an exhibition entitled “Celebrate Mother’s Day! 2008” from April 1st to May 10th. It's a show to give thanks for all that mothers, wives, and sisters have done for us over the last year. The gallery is already full of Mother’s Day-themed artwork created and arranged by the owner of the gallery, Kahi Ching. Kahi is a local Hawaiian artist who can often be found working long hours at the gallery with his beloved family.
The main piece of this exhibition is called “Cinnamon Rose" (picture bottom-left). It's an acrylic painting, utilizing lush detail and beautiful colors. The gallery also has a section full of watercolor roses(picture top-right) where Kahi explains that the plants and flowers, but especially roses are very important and special to him. Roses represent the international symbol of emotions like happiness, sadness, and love, he said. Ever since he was 15, roses have been a spiritual inspiration for his artwork and still are to this day. Aside from watercolor painting, Kahi loves to work in multi-media art which can be seen at the gallery in his drawings, acrylic and oil paintings, photographs and sculptures.
The Kahi Gallery is open from 11A.M. to 6P.M., from Tuesday through Saturday. His rose prints, cards, and bookmarkers are sold at the gallery. The next theme of the gallery exhibition is will be a celebration of the Father's day with his own unique wood work.
