Honolulu Zoo
The Honolulu Zoo is located at the outskirt of Waikiki, right along Kalakaua street, making it the perfect oasis in the middle of the city. The greatest thing about the Honolulu Zoo is the fact that there are no cages. Monkeys are jumping all over the place though wild animals are held in captivity, of course. The large land and open space makes this zoo feel quite liberating.
Another great thing about the Honolulu Zoo is a host of colorful birds typical of Hawaii. The elegant and vibrant-colored pink flamingos near the entrance will take your breath away!
The Honolulu Zoo has managed to create a layout that is as close to the natural habitat of the animals as possible. There’s even an area resembling Africa’s savannah! Surrounded by red soil, you might actually believe you’ve been transported across continents to the savannah.
It’s no surprise the Honolulu Zoo is the perfect place for kids to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Make sure to bring them to the petting area where kids can directly communicate with the animals they love.
Also, ask about the monthly nighttime activities, such as evening walks through the zoo. You can finally get a glimpse of what zoo animals are up to after closing!
